Pocket Rocket Arrives

Image features a sport-style motorcycle with a sleek and aerodynamic design, positioned in front of a white corrugated metal wall. The motorcycle is predominantly white with bold red and blue accents, creating a dynamic and eye-catching appearance. The front fairing includes dual circular headlights and a tinted windscreen. The bodywork displays the 'Honda' logo in white on a blue background, along with 'CBR' and 'FireBlade' branding in stylized fonts. The wheels are white with visible disc brakes, and the seat is black with a white rear section. The overall layout emphasizes the motorcycle's sporty and aggressive stance, highlighting its performance-oriented features.

This beautiful machine arrived safely at the workshop on 4th January 2025; and it is absolutely gorgeous. Sadly it has been left out at the mercy of the elements for a few years, but it still made the seller sad to see it go.

We’ll be breathing some new life back into this classic pocket rocket. This is one that Tom is most excited about getting started on!

Before any real work can begin on it, we’ve stripped off all the plastics (lots of rusty bolts and standard Honda cable-ties – IYKYK). The poor thing has plenty of surface rust, seized bolts and all the other usual issues you’d expect.

The fairing was already cracked in a few places, although it’s actually in remarkably good fettle. Sadly, we managed to crack it in a few more places getting it off.

We ended up pulling the brake calipers off both wheels to make pushing it around easy.

Image depicts a partially disassembled motorcycle in a garage setting. The motorcycle is positioned on a concrete floor, with its front wheel turned slightly to the left. The frame is exposed, revealing the engine and various mechanical components. The front fairing and seat are removed, exposing the wiring and internal structure. The motorcycle has a white frame with black and metallic parts, and the front wheel is fitted with a thick, treaded tire. In the background, there are various garage items, including a broom with a yellow handle, a red tool chest, and a stack of tires. The lighting is dim, casting shadows on the floor and highlighting the details of the motorcycle's structure.
Image features a garage setting with two motorcycles prominently displayed. On the left is a black and silver Honda motorcycle with a sleek, aerodynamic design, featuring a prominent 'Honda' logo in white on the fuel tank and a red and white graphic on the fairing. The motorcycle is mounted on a red front wheel stand. To the right is a partially disassembled motorcycle, lacking a fairing, exposing its mechanical components and frame. It has dual round headlights and is also supported by a red front wheel stand. The floor is concrete, and the background includes stacked tires and a blue wall, adding to the workshop ambiance. The lighting is bright, highlighting the details of the motorcycles and the surrounding area.

Now it’s safely nestled alongside it’s younger (but bigger) cousin, waiting patiently for us to have a proper look at it.

This is the same bike as Tom’s first bike, back in the day. Tom’s bike ended up getting crashed a few times, but this was before the days of eBay and it being easier to get parts. So that bike was never quite the same, restoring this bike feels almost like a mission of atonement!
